Zoya Luxe Noir, Swatches and Review

Press Sample

I am making my way through my swatch pile and although I swatched these, I never shared them. I also just realized that Zoya did not actually release a holiday collection, which is so unusual. As I was swatching this collection, I realized this collection is actually pretty festive and holiday like so no harm no foul that I did not end up swatching it until way later. Also it’s pretty transitional between winter and spring. Lastly, starting today, Zoya has a deal of 10 polishes for $25, so time to stock up. So let’s get to it!

Axelle: 2 coats. A luxurious, seductive red with a metallic gold finish. Well, this is definitely a luxurious nail polish. I love this red and it’s definitely bright and fun for the holidays. It does pull out some red toes in my skin so I look a little lobster hands, but I don’t mind. That gold shimmer is stunning. This one did stain a bit so wear basecoat and make sure you remove nicely.

Beckett: 2 coats. A blackened teal cream with an intense finish and a neon aura. So I’m just going to put out here that all the cremes dry a but matte and they are all super opaque and all stain. I love the shade of this color, but I’m not sure I will reach for it because it stains. Look at my nails 😭😭.

Billie: 2 coats. A rich, velvety eggplant shade with a multi tone micro metallic red finish. This one is so pretty and much more complex in person with copper and blue colored flecks. It’s really deep and vampy and perfect for January when we’re in that in-between season. It’s lovely and I’m not even a purple person.

Bowie: 2 coats. A dark, enigmatic blurple cream with a sophisticated finish.  I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of purple be called an enigmatic but I guess this one is. It’s fairly bright and it dries matte so I am assuming there is some neon in it. The formula is opaque but thin so I had some flooding around the cuticles because I was a little sloppy while applying so just be aware. This one kept pulling up as blue on my camera, but trust me, it is definitely purple. This one lightly stains but not too badly.

Against my laptop, you can see the purple more. It is blurple, but so annoying to photograph.

Isley: coats. A rich, inky indigo that radiates a glow, reminiscent of the night sky.  Same as Bowie that this one is thin but opaque and dries matte. This is a rich midnight blue and I can imagine how stunning it would be with a flake topcoat such as Stella Chroma Tangled Tinsel. Unfortunately, this one is a stainer so I’d rather put on a deep blue that does not stain.

Shayne: 3 coats. A warm putty gray with a dazzling display of holographic glitter. I actually swatched this polish last, and it was the redeemer after three incredibly rough cremes that stained the crap out of my nails. I like the shade of gray, as it is a bit calming rather than a harsh black with glitter which we’ve seen from Zoya before.

Overall, I did like the variety of shimmers, glitters, and cremes in this collection. However, I was disappointed that all three cremes were stainers. Ugh, my nails were looking so pretty. No matter how much I love a color, if it stains, I purge it. I’ll see if I bother doing comparisons since I usually do those to help myself purge but I’m purging all the cremes and there is nothing similar to Shayne.

  1. The “enigmatic” part is why they call Bowie a blurple; I just don’t see any purple at all, lol.
Beckett is gorgeous! I feel like this is a dumb question, but are you wearing a base coat?

    1. Haha!! Well, it is definitely blurple but ugh, my camera was sooo rude. I added a picture that shows a bit more purple. I love the shade of Beckett but it ruined my nails. I did not have base coat here. I never swatch with basecoat. Of course, that would circumvent some of the staining issues. They have a sale right now, so it might be worth a try if you love the color!

  2. Thank you so much for throwing yourself on the sword to save our nails. I will never buy a stainer. I really like Shayne. I prefer gray over black. Thanks for sharing 💜

    1. As I mentioned in the comment above, I was not wearing base coat so that is my potential problem. I like Shayne too. It's an odd grey--deep and moody and Halloween vibes. I appreciate Zoya giving us unique colors.
