Born Pretty Abstract Art Water Decals

Press Sample

Happy Saturday all! Today I'm sharing some fun decals for Born Pretty Store. I chose these because that top design reminded me of the artist Mondrian (but in different colors) and I loved it! But, this manicure is like a Monet, it's prettier from afar (I really hope you get this reference!).

Born Pretty Abstract Art Water Decals

This comes with two patterns. Each pattern has a manicure's worth of decals, but no extra, so don't make a mistake! I tend to wear decals as accent nails, so it's never an issue for me.

Close look outside the package! I like to choose decals that either I can't handpaint or would take me hours, so this fits the bill. I do like these patterns.

I'm no stranger to water decals. I removed the plastic cover, soaked the decal in water, and separated it gently from the paper backing. That part went fine.

Then my top coat destroyed the decal. Again, I've used decals probably 100+ times. You need to very carefully float top coat over the decal as it can deteriorate. I did this, but the decal just fell apart. I was pretty bummed as I love the pattern on these. As I wore the manicure, more and more just flaked off.

In combination with my failed gradient (I should have gradiented the colors over white, but did a base of the yellow orange), I was just frustrated. I am going to use the other pattern soon and see if it was just too humid the day I did it (we had bad storms) or if it is just these decals.

This is the game of the water decal! You really don't know if they are the ones that just fall apart with top coat or not. Luckily, they are so cheap, that it's okay. Just frustrating. I just love this design. I went on to the Born Pretty site, and it seems someone got them to work nicely. So I'll report back when I use the other pattern.

Born Pretty has a huge selection of water decals, and if you search my blog, you can see tons that I have used successfully. This set retails for 99 cents and can be found HERE. Any style you want of decals are on here and you can find other water decals and nail art tools HERE

  1. Ugh, I HATE when top coat destroys my decals, or any nail art for that matter. I can only imaging the time needed to create this design from scratch, so water decals are a good way to go. And I totally spat out my coffee on the Monet comment. ;)

    1. And I'm always so careful. So it was such a bummer. I just think some are more sensitive than others. Clueless for life :)

  2. Such a shame with the topcoat. I've never had any problems with any water decals when I apply topcoat. Maybe they were a faulty batch. Fun pattern and love your mani x

    1. Really? I would say it's like 25% of them! I have no idea why. I'm going to try the other set and see if it was just too humid.

  3. Aw, I didn't know that top coats could do that to decals! That's a shame, too, because these decals are gorgeous. And honestly, I totally love the gradient. Each time I see it, I love seeing the colors together more and more.

    1. Yea, especially if you push down too hard and don't float the top coat. I should have done the gradient over a white base. My fault for being lazy!

  4. Ahhhh, now I understand the Monet reference! Better from afar! Well, I always say: there's how it looks in the swatch picture. And then, there's how it looks in "real life." Without strong lighting and magnification, everything looks better. Unless of course you can't perceive any of the detail :-)

    1. Just a little Clueless reference hehe. Because in person, this wasn't so bad. You're spot on. With the lighting, frontal view, these photos really do show off the detail of my mess haha. I plan on giving the other set a try this weekend though.
