Summer to Fall Swirl Nail Art

 Press Sample

As summer ends and we move into the school season, this week starts a brand, new chapter for me. If you’ve been a reader of my blog, you know that I graduated with my second masters degree last December. I walked in my cap and gown this past May, and shared my special manicure. Well now I’m opening up another door and beginning my journey as a doctoral student. I have officially completed my first week of course work!

Yes, some of you guessed a doctorate might be my next step, but nothing was really official until just a few weeks ago. I am hopeful I will still give myself time to do my nails once a week because it’s definitely something I need for mental health. To connect to my transition to a new part of my life, I am also transitioning from summer to fall nails.

Obviously, wavy swirl designs are nothing new. I found this look on Pinterest and it’s from an Instagram Nailssbysami. Her design does this as an accent nail. What attracted to me to the design was the color combination. It’s so unique and not anything I would come up with on my own. It’s cool because it’s not even a rainbow; it’s pink, two oranges, and two greens. I like that it starts with a neon which represents summer and transitions to a moody, dark green, which is middle of fall for me. So this is literally my summer to fall swirls.

Here are the colors! I actually love the process of going through my helmers to find the perfect colors.

  • Base: Jessica Cosmetics Hydrangea, 3 coats
  • Pink: Morgan Taylor Pretty as a Pink-ture
  • Neon orange: Morgan Taylor You’ve Got Tan-gerine Lines
  • Peach: Jessica Cosmetics Apricot Ice
  • Sage green: Zoya Ireland
  • Darker green: Zoya Cooper

I prefer how these nails look in the sun, but I just wanted to show you what it looks like in normal lighting as well. So here are more pictures because I am just obsessed with how this came out.

Like most of my nail arts, I do one color at a time on all the nails (if I’m going the same design), so that it moves faster rather than doing all five colors on one nail. I started with the outside of the pink and I started with a thin swirl. I didn’t want to run out of space. I then went back and made the pink swirl a little bit thicker when I saw I had more space than I thought. This actually was fairly quick art. I think it’s because I don’t focus on perfection so the swirls aren’t perfect on each nail, but it doesn’t bother me at all.

How are you feeling about summer nails right now? I think I’m moving on and I am all about the fall moody autumnal colors. I’m also very excited about my new chapter and let’s see how it goes.

  1. I really love this Dr Michelle..... that has a wonderful ring to it . Ireland is one of my favorite zoya shades so any manicure that has that shade I love. Congrats on this next phase of your life. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Aw thanks! No Dr. Michelle yet! Technically doctoral student until my coursework is complete...then doctoral candidate until my dissertation is complete. So I have a few years...if I finish!

I don't nearly use Ireland enough but I agree, it is stunning. I need to use it more!
