Polish Pickup comes back this Friday, March 1st and this month's theme is Album Covers! I don't even look at album covers anymore which is sad because the art used to be so amazing. Remember epic music videos growing up? So different these days haha. Well, I think makers had a lot of fun with this: so many finishes and colors. YES!

I wanted to show off each polish matte, so the last photo of all the photos show it with one coat of matte top coat. The Stella Chroma comes in a matte finish.

In a Gadda Da Vida: 2 coats plus top coat.
Cost & Cap: $8.50, no cap.
Inspiration: Album cover of In a Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly.
Thoughts: The is a concrete grey shimmer with bits of muted coral-pink and green flecks in the polish. It's very unique. The base almost gives off purple tones with the combination of colors. It went on nicely in two coats. I do love the addition of the coral and green flecks.

It's Britney, B*tch: 3 coats. Ring nail is 1 coat over black.
Cost & Cap: $12, cap of 75 for US, cap of 12 for UK.
Inspiration: Oops I Did it Again album cover from Britney Spears
Thoughts: This polish is a circus of UCC flakies, metallic flakies, gold flakies and color shifting flakies. This is so fun!! So much flakies goodness! Because it's only flakes, it did take three coats to build up on my longer nails, but two coats will suffice for shorter nails. There's so much sparkle! I did this over black on my ring nail. It's actually super opaque in one coat! So much shift and sparkle.

Famous Blue Raincoat: 2 coats plus top coat.
Cost & Cap: $12, cap of 100.
Inspiration: The songs of Leonard Cohen and the vocals of Jennifer Warnes.
Thoughts: This is a bright yet dark blue-ish teal with yellow, bronze, and holo sparkle. This is a great shade of blue. I love the green undertones. This was almost a one coater and so I think I can stamp with this! I love the sparkle too. The yellow sparkle sets this one apart! The color perfectly matches the cover!

The Kid: 2 coats.
Cost & Cap: $10, no cap
Inspiration: The character Prince played in the movie,
The Kid, and the album cover
for Purple Rain.
Thoughts: The Kid is a
tri-thermal polish made to match the moody feel of the cover. When
cold, a deepened eggplant shade is accented by micro flakes that shift
from purple to copper and gold. When this shade starts to warm, a
grape-leaning purple transitions into a violet-leaning fuchsia. This was my first time using a tri-thermal. I was nervous to try this thermal because I was like oh no, how will my nails show three colors, but you can see it! I love it with top coat, but I wanted to see it matte and I love the shimmer.

No Scars To Your Beautiful: 2 coats.
Almost a one coater!
Cost & Cap: $11, no cap
.
Inspiration: Alessia Cara's album Know-It-All, specifically the song Scars to Your
Beautiful.
Thoughts: This is a greyed teal crelly with lots of red/gold ultra chrome chameleon flakes. The formula is stunning and honestly could have been a one coater, but I wanted more flakes. The flakes appear copper but then in the shade, you can see the shiftiness! The base is really unique.

Turtle in the Clouds: 3 coats, dries as matte.
Cost & Cap: $12, no cap
.
Inspiration: Phish. Most years for Halloween, they do a show
and cover an album completely. The Beatles, The Who, Velvet Underground.
But for 2018, they covered an obscure Scandanavian band called Kasvot
Växt. Except they weren’t a real band. It was an elaborate prank. But
the album cover is really pretty.
Thoughts: This is a matte sky blue full of iridescent flakies and pink/gold shifting
shimmer. The polish dries matte, which I'm obsessed with. Oh my, this color is stunning. I love how soft it is. I literally feel like it looks like care bears floating on clouds. The flakes are so pretty. I added top coat in the second half of the photos and it's just awesome. Don't miss out on this polish!

I really like Turtle in the Clouds, especially matted.
ReplyDeleteIt comes in matte! I’m obsessed with it.
DeleteCare Bears? Bahahahaha!!! Obie and I got a kick out of that one. :) Thanks for sharing, friend. Fab photos as always!
ReplyDeleteCan’t you see it? The car bears are just frolicking on clouds in your polish! LOL. Care Bears are the flakes.
DeleteFamous Blue Raincoat is a stunner! That shade is just so perfect.
ReplyDeleteAnd a fabulous formula at basically one coat!
DeleteI remember how important the album covers were. We'd practically memorize them. It's not the same anymore. My two favorites are the Stella Chroma and KB Shimmer. I better start making my list.
ReplyDeleteI love In A Gadda da Vida & it’s Britney especially over black!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your thorough reviews! All your manis and photos are dynamite!
ReplyDeleteIn Gadda Da Vida is GORGEOUS! I can see that on my nails right now!
ReplyDeleteThe Alessia Cara one is fun!
ReplyDeleteSo many great options this month. The color shift in that KBShimmer thermal is killer!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun theme! I think I like The Kid the best, Purple Rain appeals to me the most.
ReplyDeleteOmg stella chroma is STUNNING! I love that opalescent effect.
ReplyDeleteThat aurora lacquer polish is hot!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little sad to see how the younger generation is missing out on the creative nature of album covers with everything being digital. I love the inspiration and really enjoy seeing what the brands have created!
