Stella Chroma Basics: High Noon and New Moon

Press Sample

In addition to the Americana Collection, which I shared HERE, Stella Chroma is coming out with a black and white creme. Any nail polish lover knows the importance of having these two colors in their collection. I use black and white for art, bases for flakes and powders, bases for smoosh manis and other art that might include neons, or if I just want something classic and clean to wear. So, with that, let's check these out.

I would say the formula on these are more of a squishy jelly quality. They aren't sheer, but they have a more shiny quality.

High Noon: 3 coats. 3 for short. As you might be able to tell, my nails are ridiculous right now. I keep trimming them and they grow back. Of course, I decided to chop my nails off on my right hand, so these might go too. I had the tiniest bit of VNL at two coats, so I added a third for photos. To be honest, I already used this as a base to my Spring Gradient and did one coat. It was perfect for gradients at one coat! So for art and a base for art, one coat works. For a full mani, you would need two coats. This one is more like a marshmallow white!

New Moon: 2 coats. This one can also be used for a base for powders, flakes, and other arts in one coat. For a mani alone, I think that this is better with two coats. Since it has that squishy quality, I find that these two just look nicer with two coats. It was quick drying as well, which is important for when you want to use a black and white as a base.

I also tried stamping with these. Note to self, stop trying to stamp on nails on a nail wheel. It never works. So ignore my mess and look at the stamping. You can see what I mean by the jelly quality. Since these are so shiny, the stamping is more sheer. Might be nice for a subtle look though.

  3. I love the stamping on the white. I see what you mean by having problems stamping on a nail wheel, though.

  4. Definitely staples everyone needs in their polish collection! I rarely wear either on their own but always need them for a base.

  7. I'm glad to hear that you can get away with just one coat for High Noon when you're using it as a base... I hate having to go 3 coats unless I really love a polish!
