Gelish Dip Powder Manicure System

Press Sample

Today, I have something totally new and I forced myself out of my comfort zone to try! I've been hearing about dip powders in the nail world for a while. As someone who changes her polish frequently, I wasn't really interested. But then I received this kit, and was still scared. But my cousin was telling me how she swears by these powders, and well, I had to sit down and give this a shot!

Morgan Taylor Gelish Dip System

Firstly, here's the entire kit and how it arrives. There's a plain color set and the French Kit. Below is the French Kit.

What's helpful is that the back says No Light Needed! I immediately put this kit to the side because I thought it needed to cure but nope! And it promises a 14 days wear. More on that in a bit!

Here's everything included in the kit and I'll share individual pictures too!

Mini Cleanse. This is the first step in the process.

French Dip Jar for smile lines. I didn't use this as neither of my testers wanted a French.

There's a buffer, extra caps and brushes (more on that), no-lint wipes).

So these are the clear polishes that each have their individual function. I couldn't figure out why there were extra brushes until I did the actual manicure. The powder can get into the brushes, and I'm sure over time, can clump. There's also a Brush Restorer on the far right.

These are the colors that come with the French kit.

I was also sent these additional colors and YAY. These are much more my style than the French.

Thank you, Joanna for being my guinea pig! She was the one who told me she swears by dip manicures. The silver color is her dip manicure at 3 weeks. She was going in the next day to have them re-done and she let me test this out on her! We were unclear of how to remove it (because I apparently couldn't read the pamphlet all the way through!) so that took forever, so I did one nail! LOL.

But June Bride is gorgeous! It looks okay in the jar and WOW on the nail!

Here are the instructions and they are crucial. Each clear coat has a specific job and it helps keep the manicure on for 3 weeks with no chips! I followed this to a T! Following this made the manicure a breeze.

Here's the very clear removal pamphlet. I simply didn't turn it around LOL. We skipped step 1 and it is crucial with removal!

I did my mother's nails on November 1st. The entire process took about 35 minutes. Granted, I'm still new at this and needed to read through the steps so I didn't mess up the order of the polishes. It dried almost immediately! You'll see that some powder is on the cuticle and nail. Don't worry. All you have to do is wash your hands with WATER (not soap right away) and it comes off. My mom chose the gold color. I think it's Give Me Gold.

Here is her manicure on November 16th. That's 16 days of  cleaning, removing Halloween decorations and putting them back into storage, hand-washing. My mom is AMAZED. She had one tiny chip on her right nail but she attributes that to her nail biting (stop it mom!). You can see some growth by the cuticle line, but it has been 16 days! She hasn't had any nail breaks, and she said she feels her nails are getting stronger. She doesn't want to do a normal manicure again!

She finally took the manicure off on November 21, so that's 3 weeks! One nail on her right hand had chipped. She buffed first and did the foil method and it came off easily. So the 14 day wear? That was easily accomplished and she went over it!

The system I received (the French manicure system) seems to retail anywhere from $90-$180, so it's all about where you shop. I'm seeing the powders range from $12-$40. I'm trying to get confirmation of the costs, because I want more dip powders!

I think this will be amazing for the next time I go on a two week vacation. The stuff holds on strong and I like that there's no dry time! There are some steps, but it's really just a bunch of clear coats in a certain order and some buffing. And I can do that!

  2. This is super interesting. My nails are pretty weak. I wonder if I could use the lighter/natural French colors to make the a bit more durable.

  3. It's too bad it's so expensive because it seems like once you've got the hang of it that it would be fun to do every once in a while.

    1. It's $30-$50 for a dip manicure in a salon, so it does pay off with a couple of uses! And these jars will last forever.

    1. Isn't it amazing? The wear time is great so the only concern is cuticle gap from nail growth!

  6. This is interesting to read...I'm glad it lasts so long. The initial investment in the process is about the same as getting a gel kit, and it seems it lasts as well as gel.....so I'm wondering what the advantage to using powders over gel would be?

    1. Great question! I actually want to add it to my post after work today. If you see the comment below, many people have allergies to gel and the chemicals that come with having to cure the polish. This is actually less chemicals, because the polish is literally POWDER. I should have taken a photo of what the powder looks like. It's great for those who want the wear of gel, but don't want the smell of chemicals or a light system. Thanks for the great questions!
