A Rhyming Dictionary Calvin and Hobbes Collection: Swatches and Review + GIVEAWAY

Press Sample

Hi All! Today I have a wonderful new collection from the indie brand, A Rhyming Dictionary. Morgan, the creator, loves this cartoon and although I do not know much of it (I've read the comics a long time ago), anyone will love these polishes. Everyone will find that at least one of the shimmers, holos, or glitters of this collection are up their alley. In fact, Morgan is providing Tiger Stretch and a polish of your choice for a giveaway, so make sure to read all the way through! Let's go to the swatches. Grab some snacks and take a seat.

A Rhyming Dictionary Calvin and Hobbes Collection

The shimmers: While these do look awesome layered over black and white, they become completely opaque on their own.

Bath Time: Morgan writes that this polish is "Micro flakes of copper, blue, orange, and gold make for a complex depth, like that of deeply embedded mud and clay." This is so dead on. The polish is completely opaque in two coats and the copper flecks appear almost red and really stand out. This polish was also stunning over white if you use a thin coat.

Rosalyn: From the maker, "Micro flakes make up this polish, blue, purple, pink, orange, and turquoise all reflect to make a kind of fish scale shimmer to it." OMGosh the pink shimmer in this polish is just too amazing. It also has so much sparkle, it appears to have a holographic shift to it. This one was certainly my favorite of the shimmers. Two coats.

I'm Hooome: is a "maroon and gold flecks that sometimes shine blue and pink, it has a lot of depth to it." This one was thinner and needed three coats to be opaque. The gold flecks were plentiful and stand out against the darker purple base. I bet this would look awesome over black.

The Transmogrifier: is a polish with "Blue sparks with iridescent shine to it this polish is hard to capture accurately." It is certainly hard to capture how gorgeous this polish is, so I tried to show it to you over a variety of bases. The white base shows off the flecks of the polish and the black shows off just how sparkly this polish is. You can also do three coats of it alone, which gives this winter wonderland look to it (I wanted to add white glitter on it!)

The holos: Can I just start off by saying how amazing these are? Easiest to use one coater polishes!

Tiger Stretch: This is described as a pale pink holo, but on my skin tone, it appeared more beige. This can be brush-strokey so apply with caution. The reason you can see brushstrokes is because I had NO idea this polish is a ONE COATER. So apply carefully, but only apply one coat. No top coat here. The holo is linear and gorgeous.

Susie: "A periwinkle blue holo made with spectraflair this is a subtler holo, it's not totally in your face. Finish is matte until top coated." EVERYONE STOP AND GET THIS POLISH. It does indeed dry to a suede finish but the holo DOES still show through. It is absolutely awesome. When it's top coated, it reveals the most gorgeous lapis blue color.  My middle and pinky nails are top coated in the photos.

Stupendous Man: "A pinkish-red holo made with spectratek with flakes of crimson and blue flash mixed in." Another one coater and my favorite of the holos in this collection. I really love a holo polish with something unique. This one is a stunner. You really absolutely need this polish. It will be my go-to quick mani when I want something gorgeous but have no time.

The glitters:

G.R.O.S.S.: "The polish itself is a girly mix of white circles, silver hexes, gunmetal holo hexes, pink holo circles, neon pink squares, flat pink hexes and tiny pink holo hexes." It is a great balance of matte and sparkly and I've shown one coat over Barry M Prickly Pear. I plan on rocking this over a white, pink, and purple gradient soon. I really enjoyed this combination of glitters and how much came out with just one coat.

Lots of Tiny Snowmen:  "Every kind of circle glitter I could find. ‘Nuff said."  That sums it up! I love that this polish has matte, satin, and sparkly circle glitter in different sizes. I've shown one coat over a Barry M gelly skittle manicure. I love the versatility in this polish. Because of the heavier glitter, the dabbing method works best here. I also noticed this polish had a stronger scent, so make sure the room is ventilated!

I have to say I love this collection because there is something for everyone. What I also love about A Rhyming Dictionary is the affordable prices. While indie prices have soared to $15+, her polishes are $7.50-$9. That is something I can completely appreciate. They are good quality and with so many one coaters, this is a collection to check out.
