Mentality Nail Polish It's a Baby! Palette Collection: Swatches and Review

 Press Sample

The It's a Baby! palette from Mentality Nail Polish features four nail polishes for $20 which is currently available. All four polishes are considered "jelly creme" polish, but I am unclear with that description. These remind me more of shimmery frosts. These polishes are great for layering though, so check out my swatches and simply nail art.

Peek-a-Boo: 3 coats. This is described as a pink tinted jelly creme. Again, I do not agree with that description. They are neither jelly polishes (I guess it was somewhat sheer) and it is definitely not a creme polish. This is true of all four. Peek-a-Boo is a vibrant pink, almost neon in some lighting. This was definitely my favorite of the set. You can see some brushstrokes in the final layer, so the less strokes the better. I finished with one coat on Mentality Fast Dry Top Coat.

Hopscotch: 3 coats. This is a light blue tinted jelly creme. Like Peek-a-Boo, this one is sheer and needs three coats. It also appears neon in certain lighting. This is a great pedicure color. I finished with one coat on Mentality Fast Dry Top Coat.

Bearing: 2 coats. This is  a deep green toned jelly creme but it's more complex than that. I see multi-colored bits in here and I swear I see some pink, gold, and blue shifting shimmer. This one is more opaque than the previous two but again, be careful of brushstrokes. I finished with one coat on Mentality Fast Dry Top Coat.

Delivery: 2 coats. Delivery is a deep blue toned jelly creme. Like Bearing, it was opaque in
two coats. This is a deep blue with almost a greyed base (but it is very blue, simply greyed out). I finished with one coat on Mentality Fast Dry Top Coat.

I wanted to see how these four worked for layering. I did the brushstroke technique over one coat of a black creme. The shimmers aren't nearly as frosted when they are layered.

Lastly, I used Mentality Fast Day top coat of all my manicures. This is certainly a steal at only $4. My manicures dried super fast while swatching. Before I removed a color to swatch the next, they were dry. Definitely check this out!

Overall, this collection slightly confuses me because I don't really understand the color
concept with the theme of "It's A Baby."  These polishes also had a very strong smell to me,
so I recommend painting in a ventilated area. I am not usually bothered by the scent of nail polish, but these were strong. I suggest layering these over black to reduce the appearance of brushstrokes. Mentality Nail Polish has a huge selection of nail polish available (for example, their mattes and jelly holos). I look forward to trying their more well-known finishes.

Mentality Nail Polish is available through their main shop HERE but they are also available at a variety of etailers including: Harlow & Co., Sally Magpies, and Edgy Polish. Check out their Facebook and Instagram to stay updated.

  1. Your review is thorough and detailed! I appreciate the heads up about odor, they don't usually bother me but it is nice to know up front and certainly not a dealbreaker!

    1. Everyone reacts differently. What bothers me may not bother someone else, but I thought it would be good to mention it since I was sensitive to these (but yet, Seche Vite doesn't bother me but does for others).
